Why Does My iPhone Display an Essential Notification or Unknown Component Warning?

While only Apple’s Genius Bar or Authorized Service Providers can replace components in the latest iPhones without triggering these notifications, it does not suggest any issue with your device. Instead, it indicates that the replaced component – whether the battery, camera, or screen – has been substituted with a new part that functions just as effectively as the original.

It’s important to note that these notifications do not affect your device’s performance in any way. They will briefly appear on your lock screen for four days and then remain accessible in Settings for an additional 15 days. Your device will continue to operate as usual, with the only inconvenience being the inability to readily view your battery’s health status.

What Types of Notifications Might You Encounter?

The specific notifications you encounter depend on the iOS version you’re using. For instance, if you’re on iOS 15.2 or later, navigate to “Settings” > “General” > “About” > “PARTS AND SERVICE HISTORY” to determine which components have undergone replacement.

If the installed component is not recognized as a genuine Apple part, you’ll see “Unknown Component”. Conversely, if genuine Apple parts and procedures were used for the replacement, you’ll see “Authentic Apple Component” next to the part. However, unless an Apple Genius bar has replaced the part, it will always show as ‘Unknown part’.
